How to set up VPNPower for Windows 8/8.1

This tutorial guide will walk you through the steps to manually set up a VPNPower VPN for Windows 8/8.1.


Find your VPNPower account credentials

In order to use VPNPower with Windows 8/8.1 you will need to set up a new VPN connection. To set up a VPN connection, you will need a server address and your user name and password. This section of the tutorial will show you how to find all of this information.

Open the Welcome Email you received when you signed up for VPNPower.

Add a new VPN connection

To add a new VPN connection, go to the lower-right hand corner (System Tray) and click the Network icon and then click on Open Network and Sharing Center.

Next, click Set up a new connection or network.

Next, click Connect to a workplace.

Next, click Use my Internet connection (VPN).

The VPN settings are straightforward to fill in.

  1. Internet address: choose the VPN server to connect to from the following list:australia-sydney.vpnpower.net
    france-paris.vpnpower.net
    germany-frankfurt.vpnpower.net
    japan-tokyo.vpnpower.net
    netherlands-amsterdam.vpnpower.net
    singapore-singapore.vpnpower.net
    uk-london.vpnpower.net
    usa-chicago.vpnpower.net
    usa-losangeles.vpnpower.net
    usa-newyork.vpnpower.net
  2. Destination name: <city name> VPNPower
  3. Remember my credentials: Checked
  4. Click Create

Back in the Network and Sharing Center click Change adapter settings

Right click on the VPNPower connection and click Properties

The VPN connections properties will appear

Click the Security tab and under Type of VPN select Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol (SSTP), then click OK.

Connect to a VPN server

Before you connect you can go to http://www.whatismyip.com to check your current IP.

Back in the Network and Sharing Center, you will right click and click on Connect / Disconnect.

It is also possible to go to the upper right hand corner to view the Charms Bar, select Settings, then select Networks.  You can click on the VPN Connection and then select Connect.

Enter your Username and Password from the Welcome email and click OK.  Then click Connect.

You can go to http://www.whatismyip.com to see that your IP has changed to the country you connected to.

Disconnect from a VPN server

To disconnect from the VPN server, go to Settings > Network & Internet > VPN > [name of VPN connection] > Disconnect.
